Lakeview Middle School recently handed out mental attitude awards. Seventh-grade winners were: Jessica Mosby (volleyball), Karl Campbell (football), Isaac LeMasters (cross country). Eighth-grade winners were: Ryan Lursen (cross country), Ben Cordell (football), Erica Schori (volleyball).

There’s no magic formula to living to be 100, but Bernice Gridley of Winona Lake claims a few things helped along the way. “You obey the Bible, have good, healthy parents and a good nutrition,” she said. Neatly piled on a two-tiered coffee stand by her chair are a thick Better Homes and Gardens book on gardening, health tip recipes, nutrition guides and the Bible. “I’ve always had a good garden where I live,” added the woman who will celebrate her 100th birthday Sunday. “That’s one reason I’ve lived so long.”

Mrs. James Stafford, of Warsaw, was honored recently with a stork shower at the home of Mrs. Jack Bartlemay, of Beaver Dam Lake. Guests included Mrs. Billy Anderson, Mrs. Jean Ireland, Mrs. Francis Denny, Mrs. Kathryn Tripp, Mrs. Irma Robinson, Mrs. Virginia Kessler, Mrs. Nell Bryant, Mrs. Florence Partridge, Mrs. Callie Gharonle and Mrs. Lillian Chapkowski.

Mrs. Rose Kyle and daughter, Miss Helen Kyle, deputy county auditor, left Saturday afternoon for Miami, where the former will spend the winter with her daughter, Mary. The latter will return after the Christmas holidays.

Mr. and Mrs. Cary Groninger have returned to their home, Kings Highway, Winona Lake, after enjoying a honeymoon in Chicago.
