10 Years AgoManchester College's historic gymnasium/auditorium, built in 1926, will be demolished due to safety concerns and many years of disuse. Demolition cost is approximately $100,000 and is slated to begin this month. The new physical education and recreational center was dedicated Oct. 23, 1982. The historic building has been used merely as storage space for the past several years.25 Years AgoClaypool Swing Choir - "Nuttin' For Christmas?" Claypool Swing Choir member Dana Martz hopes that's not the case. The Claypool Elementary School Swing Choir is comprised of fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade pupils, and will make its upcoming debut in the Claypool gymnasium. Other members of the Swing Choir are: Becca Brindle, Lauren Martz, Leslie North, Sandy Rhoads, Susan Bradley, Kiscia McCane and accompanist Gretchen Gunter at the piano.50 Years AgoSix Kosciusko County students have received band assignments for Indiana University's 1961 concert season that includes a recording session for RCA, a four-day tour of Indiana and Ohio and six television programs. The area symphonic bandsmen are: Nancy O'Reilley, Warsaw, second clarinet and David Kinsey, Claypool, tenor sax. Playing in the concert band is Bernard Wilson, Claypool, bass trombone. Members of the varsity band are Kathryn Locke, Syracuse, tenor sax, and Sue Frederick, Atwood, percussion. William Chinworth, Warsaw, plays bassoon in the symphonic band and also tympani in the concert band.75 Years Ago A new factory is being planned to open in January in the Hugro building by Roy O. Anderson, of Marion, Ind. Anderson represents a group of businessmen who are going to incorporate a factory which will engage in the manufacture and processing of paper fiber and corrugated board products for bakeries. This product is of a patent process with pans. Pies can be baked in these new paper plates and delivered to the restaurants on the same plate, removing the necessity of return and washing of pie tins.
