10 Years

Airman Matthew P. Mueller, a 2005 graduate of Wawasee High School, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, on Nov. 11, after six weeks. He is currently stationed at Sheppard's AFB, Texas, attending Technical Training School for Aerospace Maintenance.

    Robert E. Derbyshire, a 2005 graduate of Warsaw Community High School, graduated from the Great Lakes Naval Boot Camp Nov. 10, after nine weeks. He is now serving four weeks in Pensacola, Fla., training to be a Naval airman, and then will be stationed at Whidbey Island, Washington, on an aircraft carrier.

    Lawrence and Audine McAfoose spent the morning putting up Christmas decorations around their home at the corner of Main and Harrison in Silver Lake.

25 Years

Marta Hetler, 13, daughter of Rick and Deb Hetler, N. Maple Dr., Warsaw, showed the reserve champion Hampshire yearling ewe at the 1990 Indiana State Fair. She showed the supreme champion ewe at the Kosciusko County Fair.

    Bob List, from Bob List Photography, has won a first place "People's Choice Award" from Michiana Professional Photographers Nov. 5 in Goshen. The winning entry was a series of photographs of a young model on the dunes at Lake Michigan, which will be on display at List's studio through November.

    Melvin Stutzman and his sons, Leon and David, set up shop in buggy making two years ago at 8903 N. 800W, near Mikel Estates Trailer Court, south of Nappanee. Much of their work is repair and restoration. His wife, Anna Mae, assists in the shop.

 

50 Years

Warsawan Joe Ettinger, a wood-working wonder, made a special gavel for Judge Gene B. Lee from walnut wood which formerly had been the old railing in front of the jury box. He presented Court Bailiff Curtis Barker with a new homemade "striking block," so he can call the court to order in prescribed style.

    Donald Frantz, Kosciusko County Extension Agent, received a distinguished service award Thursday night, Nov. 4, from the National Assn. of County Agricultural Agents.

    The public is invited to come and see the Grace College Residence Hall that was completed in February 1964. Guided tours will be conducted at an open house Sunday, Nov. 7, and the Dorm Senate will serve refreshments.

 

75 Years

Robert (Link) Hay, an employee with the Hodges Construction Company, suffered a cut above the right eye Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 12, while working on the new addition to the Litchfield Creamery. He was struck by a pair of brick tongs, dropped by a fellow workman.

    A government weather bureau instrument, dropped from a balloon, was found Saturday afternoon, Nov. 9, near the Tippecanoe River on the Lee James farm, two and a half miles southwest of Warsaw. The instrument, a box-like affair containing a radio broadcaster and weather-recording gadgets, was similar to one found recently on another farm south of Warsaw. It had been released Saturday morning at Joliet, Ill., and had traveled very rapidly. One dollar will be paid for return of the instrument to the U.S. weather department.
