At his retirement ceremony at the Sheriff's Department, Gene Brown was honored for more than 40 years of service to the community. He spent many years with the Warsaw Police Department, rising to the rank of captain. After retiring from WPD, he became the chief probation officer. For the last seven years, Brown was a transportation officer for the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
Kosciusko Endowment Youth Services (KEYS) members Jordan Byers and Elisha Tucker were presented with the 2005 Colts Jr. Community Quarterback Award for their submission of the "Read Across Kosciusko County" service project to the Indianapolis Colts "Join the Team" Initiative.Cousin Clem: "This is the third time that I have I have told you about Bruce and Ann Howe and their Christmas decoration extravaganza. This year, it is bigger and more colossal than before imagined. The grand opening is Friday, Dec. 7, at 5 p.m., and will continue until Jan. 2 at 11 p.m. The only cost is to stay on the designated path and to give some audible oooohs and aahs. Bruce describes the busloads of children and seniors who come from surrounding communities to see this. I asked Bruce why they go through all this trouble every year. He said that most people love beauty; there is so little of it shown, so we must do our thing. We are well-paid."

Mrs. Duane Ashton, of Route 1, Warsaw, won a giant sack of groceries in a sweepstakes drawing at Owen's Supermarket, Owen Emerick, manager. Helping with the groceries were three of the Ashton children; Danny, Keith and baby David.
Mentone Band and strutters performed at half-time, giving their team an added boost to victory over Wakarusa, 73-66: Karen Hanes, Greg Rogers, Sandra Nelson, Connie East, Nan Nellans and Connie Teel.
Brian Helvey, 6, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Helvey, of North Manchester, has been chosen the 1966 Indiana March of Dimes Child. "January is our campaign month," says Mrs. Donald F. Wiley Sr., chairman.

An outstanding corn yield of 129.2 bushels per acre has won the corn growing grand championship of Kosciusko County for George Losee, Milford, in the 1940 national DeKalb Hybrid corn growing contest. State championship honors were awarded to Frank W. Brown, Tippecanoe County, with 137.57 bushels per acre.
