    Kosciusko County Sheriff-elect Aaron Rovenstine has named outgoing Whitley County Sheriff Jim Springer as the next Kosciusko County Sheriff's Dept. captain.

Springer, 56, served 27 years on the Indiana State Police force. He was elected Whitley County sheriff in November 1994, and served Jan. 1, 1995, to Jan. 1, 1999.

    Among the top award winners at the fourth annual high school student juried art exhibit at Grace Collage were Todd Waybright, Whitko (first, water color); Jackie Fites, Tippecanoe Valley (first, painting, second water color); Kari Ottersberg, Warsaw (first, sculpture, second water color); and Billy Smith, Whitko (first, ceramics).

December 11 1958

    Harold Harper, son of the Howard Harpers near Cromwell, won the junior division sheep-shearing championship at the International Livestock Show in Chicago.

Harper, a Purdue student, was Indiana's junior champion at the state fair in September.

    Twenty-five members and eight guests of the Purdue Home Economics Club were entertained at a picnic dinner at the home of Sarah Rife. Election of officers was held as follows: president, Mrs. Rife; vice president, Lucile Smith; treasurer, Lottie Anerick; secretary, Bessie Kozak; first leader, Venus Hathaway; second leader, Edna Johnson; substitute leader, Zola Smith; press reporter, Edna Hemmer; delegates elected to go to Purdue, Hathaway and Anderwick, and alternate delegates, Johnson and Smith
