10 Years Ago On November 17, Lakeland Christian Academy Technology and Robotics team competed at the first Lego League competition and brought home the Teamwork Award. The competition was held at Purdue University. The Robokatz successfully competed in nine mission runs, gave a research presentation and had a technical interview. Coaches are teacher Cal Imhoff and SPX CONTECH engineer Rockey Wilson. Members include: Aimee Wilson, Davy Hudson, Justin Hodorek, David Hoeppner, Josh Carlin, Nate Imhoff, Jason McCarty, Aaron McCarty, Jason Folson and Jon Hudson. 25 Years Ago Stroll down First Street in Pierceton and discover a parade of antique and collectibles shops proffering brass beds, china dolls, lime green depression glass cups and saucers and other relics and mementos of days gone by. A total of 11 curio shops decorate Pierceton’s main thoroughfare, plus a 12th shop, D and J Antiques, stands at the north edge of town, on U.S. 30, and harkens travelers off the highway. These shops account for approximately one-third of Pierceton’s uptown businesses and create bright places to visit on a Saturday afternoon. 50 Years Ago Dr. Dan Urschel, along with his assistants Paul Arbaugh and Denton Abbey, was one of the 66 physicians who flew to Don Scott Field at Columbus, Ohio recently to participate in the National Institute of Mobilization of Health Services in an emergency meeting. Physicians attending this meeting were members of the Flying Physicians Association, a voluntary organization dedicated to the mobilization of doctors in national civil emergencies. Physicians flew in from a five state area for the meeting. 75 Years Ago Dr. George Kress and Marie Sohaski, county nurse, were guest speakers at Warsaw Rotary Club’s weekly luncheon at the Hotel Hays. Remarks on infantile paralysis and the President’s ball, a benefit affair for sufferers of the disease were given. High school guest was Frank Black. Music was furnished by Mr. Farrel and his hill-billy band of WLS, Chicago, in connection with the agricultural program at the armory next week.
