    The Leesburg Spell Bowl Team finished third in Division 2 of the Indiana Academic Competition for Excellence. This was the seventh year for the IACE-sponsored competition for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders. Goshen was the host site for Leesburg as 385 teams competed from around Indiana recently. Leesburg had two perfect spellers: Jaclyn Abrams, a three-year veteran of the team; and James Mikel, a first-year speller.

    In a formal ceremony conducted by Sheri Shively, district deputy president of Oddfellow-Rebekah District 23, and her staff from Tyner Rebekah Lodge, officers for 1985 were installed into the chairs of Salome Rebekah Lodge as follows: noble grand, Gertrude Schiff; vice grand, Lela Ledyard; recording secretary, Edna Davis; and treasurer, Gearldean Carnes.

December 10 1959

    Atwood High School seniors scored a success with their class play "Storm Cellar," given recently at the school under the direction of Miss Maybelle Runk, who teaches speech, English and social studies. Members of the cast were: Jim Irwin, Diane Hepler, Steve Creighton, Sue Frederick, Elfrieda Stutzman, Cheryl Harmon, John Anglin, Sandy Lowman, Annis Parks, Larry Coble and Max Miller.


75 Years Ago

December 10 1934

    About 75 neighbors met recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Yeager. They appeared promptly at 6 o'clock with well-filled baskets, and enjoyed a delicious potluck supper with Mr. and Mrs. Yeager, who will be leaving the neighborhood the first of the year, as Mr. Yeager will take up his new duties as county sheriff. Mr. and Mrs. Yeager were not expecting their guests and were completely surprised.
