10 Years Ago Entering the championship game of the Holiday Inn-vitational Tournament, the Grace College men’s basketball team knew it had its work cut out for it. Trevecca Nazarene dominated NAIA No. 2 Cornerstone 96-89 in a game that was not as close as the score indicated to meet the Lancers in the finals. Grace hung close in the first half, but eventually lost 91-78. 25 Years Ago Baker’s Electronics in downtown Mentone was the site of a fire yesterday morning, causing mostly smoke and water damage to the business. Mentone, Etna Green and Burket fire departments were called to the blaze that was contained within one wall. The blaze is believed to have started in a chimney. 50 Years Ago William White, son-in-law of Dr. and Mrs. J.A. Huffman, of Winona Lake, is scheduled to make a 90,000-foot balloon ascension Tuesday morning to photograph the heavenly bodies. White, an astrophysicist, is making the balloon flight under the sponsorship of the U.S. Navy, Air Force, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Northwestern University. The flight in a capsule will be the results of more than five years of work by White. 75 Years Ago Snow a few days ago brought out a group of youngsters with sleds to coast down the steep Evangel Hill at Winona Lake. Cross streets were blocked to protect the youngsters against auto traffic. The group of youngsters posed at the top of the hill with their sleds ready to start a race down the snow packed incline. The group included Ralph Jackson, Edith Eddington, Junior Simpson, Nancy Ragan, Helen Claire Howe, Bill Baney, Paul and Bennett Haney and Marguerite Simpson.
