10 Years AgoA Warsaw auto dealer is planning a second round of its annual Christmas tree giveaway. Mike Dewitt, owner of the Car Company, said all 1,000 trees were given away within an hour last Sunday at his three dealerships. Because a number of people were turned away, Dewitt has secured another 400 trees.25 Years AgoZona Hatfield, 18, of Warsaw, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Hatfield, was named as second alternate in the breads category in the National Club Congress 4-H awards in Chicago recently. Miss Hatfield had been in Chicago for work shops dealing with leadership and the 4-H program. The banquet for the breads division was held with the national winners being announced.50 Years AgoMike Blackford, Jerry Black and Steve Kinney received God and Country awards in Scouting from the Rev. John W. Becker, pastor of the First Christian Church of Warsaw, during special service at the church. Mike, 14, is the son of Mrs. Robert Blackford, Warsaw. Jerry, 13, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Black, Warsaw. Steve, 13, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Kinney, Warsaw. Mothers of the boys, as well as Rev. Becker, received lapel pins in recognition of their encouragement to the boys.75 Years AgoThe Elks are still champions. Approximately 1,800 howling, hysterical fans saw Everett "Odds" Anglin's Purple quintet down the American Legion in the donkey basketball game at the Armory, necessitating an overtime contest, 16 to 14. The contest, an affair combining all the fine points of football, wrestling, and so forth, kept the crowd in a constant uproar throughout the melee. The contest was a huge success and the Milk Fund for which it was staged will receive approximately $80.
