Detroit St., Warsaw, are celebrating their 63rd anniversary. "Flowers Are Our Business--Growing For You Since 1927." Dirk E. Sommers, son of David L. and Linda L. Sommers, Warsaw, has received the silver wings of an Army aviator, and has been appointed a warrant officer upon completion of the rotary wing aviator course at the U.S. Army Aviation School, Fort Rucker, Ala. 50 Years Ago Don R.J. Cramer, a veteran of 27 years in the newspaper business, became managing news editor of The Times-Union today, Jan. 11, appointed by Editor Curtis Garber. He started his newspaper career in 1938 as a student linotype operator with the Pilot News at Plymouth, also working in the mail room. After serving with the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II, he returned to Plymouth in January 1946 and began working in the newsroom as a general reporter, photographer, sports editor, etc. until becoming managing news editor in the fall of 1949. 75 Years Ago County commissioners awarded the 1940 gasoline contracts to Phillips Petroleum Co., Sinclair Refining Co., Indian Refining Co. and Ohio Oil Co., each company to supply the county highway department for a period of three months in the order named above. Abshire Oil Co. was awarded the motor oil and grease contract, and D.A. Lubricant Co. was given the diesel oil contract. Warsaw's Allis-Chalmers dealers, Greider Brothers, have purchased the old state highway garage building, east of the Dalton Foundry, from W.S. Felkner. Greider Brothers will move from the Oram building, West Center Street, next week. Veteran Warsaw volunteer fireman Leolin (Bud) Moon has resigned. He has been employed for the past several months as a salesman for Wilson meat packers.
