Charlie Smith and Maureen Hall were named Man and Woman of the Year 2001 at the 90th Annual Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce dinner meeting recently. Smith, executive vice president and former educator, was greeted by his children, who had waited in the wings on the podium. Hall, who serves the community as a volunteer, also is a former educator. Times-Union Editor-in-chief Norm Hagg made the presentations.

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday didn’t get many local workers a day off, but Mother Nature did. Approximately 4 inches of new snow covered Kosciusko County by 11 a.m. this morning, making roads slick, snow covered, drifted and extremely hazardous. At 11 a.m. today, there was a total of at least 7 inches of snow on the ground with more to come. By 11:30, a snow emergency was declared in Kosciusko County by the county commissioners. Many events scheduled for this afternoon and tonight were being canceled.

The Rev. and Mrs. L.L. Grubb and children, Marilyn, Sherry and Ron, of Winona Lake, are leaving soon for their new home in Long Beach, Calif. Rev. Grubb will set up the western branch of the Brethren Home Missions Council. Miss Marilyn Grubb, a senior majoring in piano at Indiana University, will transfer to the University of Southern California. The Grubbs have been residents of Winona Lake for 17 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Russel Bolinger, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Silveus and Miss Sue Simmons and Louis Breading were among Warsawans to attend the Notre Dame-Syracuse University basketball game at South Bend last night.
Miss Sophie Kopac of Warsaw has just returned from a two weeks’ visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Kopac, of Pittsburgh, Pa.
