10 Years Ago After nearly five years of planning, the first segment of the Lake City Greenway began construction in December. The Beyer Farm Trail, just east of Pike Lake, will connect the Kosciusko Community Hospital campus with the Pike Lake Park. The bicycle/pedestrian path, two-thirds of a mile in length, will include a 1,400-linear-foot boardwalk that will cross and protect a large wetlands. The trail is scheduled to be open to the public in April. 25 Years Ago Four local swimmers, Rebecca Krieger, Rory Callaghan, Kenton Hoppus and Chad Twombly, participated in the Mid-States Quadrangular swim meet at the I.U. Natatorium recently. The four were selected as part of the Indiana All-State team, which competed against teams from Illinois, Ohio and Kentucky. All four are members of the Michiana Marlins Swim club of South Bend. 50 Years Ago Miss Teresa Gates, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gates, Pierceton, was chosen Pierceton High School’s “Homemaker of Tomorrow” in the 1963 Betty Crocker American Homemaker of Tomorrow contest. Having scored the highest in a knowledge and aptitude test given to senior girls recently by their teacher, Mrs. Fern Moe, she is now eligible to compete with other winners in the state for the title of state Homemaker of Tomorrow. 75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. John Holderman were host and hostess at a chili dinner recently following a skating party on Pike Lake. Those who enjoyed the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Dail Buell, MIss Mae Trumbull, Lowell Barnet of Markleville, Miss Mary Harriet Bishop of Pierceton, Dick Williams of Gary, Miss Francis Williams and Robert Kesler. Homer Ring and Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Wertenberger and family have gone to Chicago where Mr. and Mrs. Ring and Mr. Wertenberger are attending the National Clothiers’ Convention.
