The Indiana Angus Association named the Richard and Sharon Sommers family, Silver Lake, recipient of the 2001 Don Snepp Memorial Award/Indiana Angus Family of the Year at the group’s 2001 annual meeting and banquet Dec. 29 in Indianapolis. Pamela Snepp, Edinburgh, presented the honor to Sharon and Janelle Sommers of Silver Lake at the banquet.

April and Julius Wong Soi Sing, of Winona Lake, finally are having the pleasure of their newborn baby boy, Nathaniel, home with them. He came home last Saturday after a lengthy stay in the intensive care unit of Fort Wayne Parkview Hospital because of being four months premature. The newborn weighed 1 pound, 6 ounces at birth, and now is up to 4 pounds, 12 ounces.

Carolyn Nye and Marilyn Mikesell of the Winona Presbyterian Church and Babs Maier and Rod Trestrail of First Presbyterian in Warsaw will participate in a youth conference at Columbia City this weekend. Young people of 75 area churches will be present.

Miss Anne Sadlon has a leading role in “Ten Little Indians,” a mystery drama to be produced soon at Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Ill. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sadlon, Warsaw, she’s a freshman at Concordia.

Basketball fans in this section will have the opportunity to witness one of the fastest semi-pro teams in the state in action when the classy South Bend Woods Parts quintet tangles with the Leesburg A.C. five at Leesburg. The South Bend aggregation is headed by Raymond Parker, former Warsaw High School star, and is undefeated for the season. Boasting a lineup of former college and high school stars, the team has amassed a total of 18 consecutive victories this season.
