10 Years Ago The National FFA organization announced Renee Deatsman of Leesburg was selected as a national finalist for the National FFA Proficiency Award in Beef Production - Entrepreneurship. Deatsman is one of only four people chosen to compete for this award at the national finals held during the 75th FFA national convention in Louisville, Ky., Oct. 30-Nov. 2. Deatsman, a member of the Warsaw FFA chapter, became eligible for the national award after winning the Indiana State FFA competition earlier this year. 25 Years Ago This recipe for leftover chicken was published in the Spotlight. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes, or until hot and bubbly. 50 Years Ago Dr. Gene Likens, a 1953 graduate of Sidney High School and now a scientist at the University of Wisconsin, will head for the Antarctic to study physical and chemical conditions in two lakes not far from the South Pole. Dr. Likens is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Colonel Likens of the Pierceton-Sidney area. He is married to the former Kay Kistler of Pierceton. He expects to be gone three months. 75 Years Ago North Manchester – The Indiana Academy of Science in mass meeting recently on the campus of Manchester College elected Eli Lilly, Indianapolis drug manufacturer, as president for the coming year and decided to meet next year on the campus at Purdue University. Dr. William Edington of DePauw, retiring president, delivered an address on “Science and Modern Thought” at the evening meeting.
