Bill Curl of Mutual Federal Savings Bank taught members of Boy Scout Troop 715 the "Personal Management" Merit Badge: Jackson Wagner, Adam Becker, Landon Slone, Kyle Smith, Brandon Lee, David Zigon, Cameron Carter, Jonathan Tinkey, Shelton Coffelt, William Anderson, Andrew Heins and Tyler Ingle. Inducted into the Twenty-Five Year Club at Dalton Foundries Oct. 11: Don Brown, John Bruner, Gordon Calhoun, James Elrod, Norman Foley, Steve Fraley, James Hackworth, Carl Helton, Martin Holbrook, Amos Hunt, Curtis Prater and Doug Spears. Each received a plaque and watch from Ken Davidson, president. Nancy's Fancies has opened a cafe at Northgate Shopping Center, featuring carry-out and catering: Owners Nancy and Alexis Sideras, Penny Williamson, Babs Cummins, Jan Callaghan and Kim Willard.
50 Years
The Andrew Hochstetler farm site, one and one-half miles north of Nappanee on the east side of State Rd. 19, has been approved for the new high school building for the Wa-Nee Community Schools, which includes Nappanee, Wakarusa, Union Center, Harrison Twp., and an area in Kosciusko County, south of Nappanee. School superintendent is Haskell Osborn.
North Webster High School won the county baseball championship playoff game at Pierceton last week by edging Syracuse. Gardner Egner, Larwill, made the trophy presentation to team co-captains, Dennis Wagoner, Bill Vonasch and Mike Vanator. Coach is Donnie Butts.
75 Years
Petty Officer Glenn Wiltrout, son of West Main Street's Mrs. Marie Wiltrout, is to come back home to Indiana on or about October 25 after serving four years with the U.S. Navy, out of San Diego, Calif. Glenn's been aboard the U.S.S. Dobbin since his enlistment in 1936. He receives his discharge papers on October 19.
Everett "Silent" Rattan, local wrestler, won the decision over John Demchuck, Edmond, Ontario, Canada, Friday evening, Oct. 11, at Muncie.
Rev. George Pontius announced that Rally Day will be observed Sunday, October 13 at the First Brethren Church. A special program has been prepared for the morning worship service. Homecoming Day will be November 24
