    Akron Elementary School has been selected as a Project CHILD National Demonstration Site for the 1999-2000 school year, the Institute for School Innovation announces.

Fifteen schools in California, Florida, Georgia and Indiana were selected. To qualify as a national demonstration site, schools were required to provide evidence of meeting the essential requirements of the CHILD model.

    The following recipe was submitted by Paula Popenfoose, Leesburg, in the 1984 Times-Union Recipe Contest: Next Best Thing to Robert Redford:

One cup flour; One cup chopped pecans; One 8-oz. pkg. cream cheese; One cup sugar; Two 8-oz. ctns. thawed Cool Whip; One 6-oz. pkg. instant vanilla pudding mix; One 6-oz. pkg. instant chocolate pudding mix; Five cups milk; One large Hershey's chocolate bar. Layer one: Combine flour, margarine and nuts. Press into a 13x9x2 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool. Layer two: Beat cream cheese and sugar until fluffy in large bowl. Fold in one Cool Whip. Spread over cooled crust. Layer three: Combine pudding mixes and milk in a large bowl. Beat well until thickened. Spread over layer two. Layer four: Spread remaining eight ounce Cool Whip on layer three. Layer five: Shave Hershey's bar and sprinkle over Cool Whip layer. Cut into squares to serve.

    The 4-H Club girls and the FFA boys enjoyed a Halloween party recently at the high school building. Refreshments of cider, doughnuts and apples were served to the 50 members that were present, and five guests. Four teachers were also present. Games were enjoyed during the evening, and a social good time was had by all.
