Damage is expected to run into the thousands of dollars following a fire that raged through Derry's Music Store, 215 East Center St., late Tuesday night, Oct. 12. Two boys told firemen they came out of Breading's Cigar Store a block west and saw the front window of the store blow out from the intense heat inside, which, officials determined, was partially caused by phonograph records and other music equipment and radios that were constructed of plastic. James Derry, operator of the store, said he had received a shipment of record players and other equipment for Christmas. The two-story building, owned by William Chinworth, also houses Kimm Paint Co. on the east and has three upstairs apartments. Carol Stevens, a resident, was able to escape. Firemen were able to bring the blaze under control before it burned through the wall and ceiling.

Work on a new $25,000 addition to the Litchfield Creamery in East Warsaw will be started Monday, Oct. 14, by the Hodges Construction Company of Warsaw, and be located immediately north of the company's present plant on Argonne Road. The addition will be 140 feet long, 80 feet wide, and be faced with brick on the outside, with the interior glazed tile and the roof all-steel. The present Winona Railway spur to the gravel pit at Winona Lake will be abandoned, a new spur will be constructed on the north side of the addition. The new structure will be used for storage and shipping. When completed, the creamery will cover practically all the ground between the Pennsylvania Railroad grade and the Zimmer Coal Company.
