Repairmen suggested the system be turned off, forcing the library to close early. The system is now twice as safe, since a second backup system was installed afterward, she said. 50 Years Ago Great happiness and pride was evident as Bill Nellans and Lyle Long accepted the championship trophy from Lewis Immel, superintendent of the Lakeland Community School Corp., after Mentone won the Kosciusko County high school basketball title for the second consecutive year. The runner-up award – the basketball used in the final game – was presented to Etna Green’s Mike Stine, captain of the Cubs, by Robert Forbes, superintendent of the Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. 75 Years Ago The Pioneer Trouser Company, formerly of Hillsdale, Mich., recently opened its factory in the former post office building in North Manchester.
