 Sherman E. Bryant, a North Webster grain farmer, was awarded a Sagamore of the Wabash Jan. 8 in a surprise presentation during the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts’ 2005 Annual Conference in Indianapolis. Gov. Joe Kernan issued the state’s highest honor to Bryant for his commitment to conservation. Bryant and his wife, Colleen, have operated the farm for the past 44 years.

 Winning 10 of 11 events, the Warsaw Tigers swim team won its fifth meet in a row as it routed South Bend Clay 114-58 at the Tiger Pool. Warsaw won the last event of the evening, a 400-free relay. Scott Deming, Rich Lundin, Tyler Nichols and Tony Doyle swam the relay with a time of 3:56.27. The Tigers travel to NorthWood Thursday night.
Kosciusko County Prosecutor Michael L. Miner announced he will not be running for a fourth term in 1990. He has served as a private attorney with Valentine & Miner Law Office since 1988. Randall K. Girod, a deputy in the prosecutor’s office since 1985, will run.
Kyle Johnson, sixth grade, was named winner of the Leesburg PTO Design a T-shirt contest based on concept and art quality. Honorable mention: Matt Miller, sixth; David and Sarah Ferguson, kindergarten. Laurie Davis, PTO president, teaches kindergarten.

One of the latest technical advances in printing is being utilized by the Times-Union today. On the back page of the first section is a color advertisement by the Puritan Ice Cream Company. By mixing a vanilla solution with brown-colored ink, newspaper added a touch of scent to its reading matter.
A large crowd jammed the Warsaw Armory Wednesday for the county basketball tourney. Claypool’s cheerleaders Beth Frantz, Jo Merkle and Joyce Starner were proud of their Knights as they defeated Pierceton 92-56. Larwill’s Jim Walter paved the way for a 74-69 win over Leesburg. Dick Groves helped Milford defeat the Akron Flyers 68-67. Ken Weaver and Paul Schipper played great for Akron. Big numbers are expected for tonight’s games – South Whitley vs. Mentone; North Webster vs. Silver Lake

Warsaw’s lumberman Russell “Buster” Miner is flying nearly 1,300 miles cross-country with Burket’s Louis Meredith, Warsaw Air Service pilot, from Warsaw to Orlando, Fla. in his first experience above the ground. They will attend the annual light plane cavalcade there during the next two weeks.
Presbyterian minister, the Rev. A.W. Raabe, is receiving congratulations from most everyone for the success of the church’s third annual candlelight service.
Employees of the new Lang Furniture Store to be located in the former Feur Department Store are working overtime, day and night, to get the store in readiness for its big opening event.
The Elks’ annual New Year’s dance was a big success.
