American Legion members Robert "Coach" Lichtenwalter and Bob Morrison presented Young Tiger Alex Smith with a 100 Percent American plaque Oct. 22. The Big Orange fullback was the third-highest fundraiser for the Young Tigers this year, donating his prize money to the Warsaw Rotary Club to go toward the new flagpole on the courthouse square. Mark Stamper is coach; Allen Ross, YT president. The program wraps up its first season at Fribley Field Oct. 29.

Big Brother and Big Sister of the year awards were presented at the fifth annual appreciation dinner: Roger Klusman, Diana Whitinger, Sharon Streby and Tye Lisenbee. Little Brothers and Sisters: James Richards, Shasta Click, Ann Leedy and Ben Gates.

    Eighteen years ago, Warsaw Community High School began playing competitive volleyball, but had never won a sectional. That drought ended Saturday, Oct. 20, when the sixth-ranked Lady Tigers defeated Carroll 15-9, 15-11, in the championship game of the Columbia City Sectional. Dana Creighton led the Tigers with 13 kills in the final match.

    Nancy Alderfer and Kelly Loughlin were the top finishers for Warsaw in the girls cross country regional Saturday at Ox Bow Park, advancing to the Manchester Semistate.

 50 Years

County Commissioners Ray Ferverda, Lawrence Butts and Fredrick Gilliam declare October as "United Fund Month" in Kosciusko County. Graham Kreicker, vice president of the 1965 drive, says this year's goal of  $79,854 must be attained by Oct. 31.

    Cast for Leesburg High School's production of "Tattletale" Friday, Oct. 15: Mary Jane Foreman, Larry Bishop, Vicki Oswalt, Debbie Harrison, Rolly Robison, Karen Hamman, Jack Stookey. Directing is Mrs. William Farrar and student director Barbara Turnbull.

    Homecoming, Warsaw Community High School: A record hop will be held Tuesday, Oct. 12, from 7-9:30 p.m. so students can return home by 10. The annual bonfire behind the school in the athletic field will be held Thursday. The Tigers play Goshen Friday at Fisher Field. Halftime ceremonies include crowning of the Homecoming Queen.

75 Years

Warsaw observes "National Citizenship Week" October 13 to 19, and the local Kiwanis Club has named a committee to arrange the activities: Paul Bilby, chairman, Roy E. K. Bowen and Loren Chastain.
