Meagan Keffaber was named 2001 DAR Good Citizen for Manchester High School. The senior class voted for Keffaber for the honor. Keffaber, a senior, ranks first in her class and maintains a perfect 11.0 grade point average. She is editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, student body president and captain of the tennis and basketball teams. She is also a 10-year 4-H member. The daughter of Betsy and Kerry Keffaber, she is considering attending Purdue University and majoring in communications and political science.

Warsaw cross country runners Ryan Weihler and Beth Irvine have been selected to go with a group of American runners to compete in England during the Christmas-New Year’s holiday. The pair are currently raising the necessary funds to participate in the trip, sponsored by the International Sports exchange.

Three Kosciusko county basketball quintets - Mentone, Etna Green and Silver Lake - support unblemished records and stand knotted at the top of the county heap from a won-lost standpoint as the fifth week of roundball action begins. Etna Green’s Bill Whitacre heads the list with 95 markers in four games and a 23.7 average. Claypool’s Ronnie Longyear also has 86 but these were acquired in five games. Mentone’s Allen Creighton follows with 77.

Miss Shirley Miller of Winona Lake received a deserved recognition when she was invited to a meeting of the Northern Indiana Poetry Association at South Bend. One of her poems, which had previously been submitted in a contest, was awarded one of the prizes offered for excellence, and she was requested to be present at the recognition meeting to read her verses and receive the award.
