10 Years Ago The Brain Game and Creativity Bowl were held Nov. 1. Thanks goes to Karen Klimpert for her dedicated effort in the Creativity Bowl. Cassady Palmer, Dylan Turner and Zach Turner, students at Wawasee Middle School, won the school level challenge in the first round of the Readers Digest National Word Power Challenge. The students answered oral and written questions on vocabulary. 25 Years Ago Art Chaney: “I had just turned 15 in October. My father received a telephone call around 7 the morning of Nov. 11 saying the Armistice would be signed at 11 a.m. ending World War I. We went to school as usual but when the clock struck 11 times we started to yell. Years later, I found out that the treaty had actually been signed at 5 a.m. That night all 150 citizens of Decatur, Ohio, gathered all the loose wood and boxes we could locate and had a big bonfire in the center of town. I think I stayed up until 10 p.m. 50 Years Ago The Warsaw High School speech team won their first tournament of the year at Columbia City Saturday. They are Tim Weaver, Talitha Fair, Bruce Hoyt, Franklin Kliewer, Sharon Howell, Cheryl Chance, Mereda Summers, Elizabeth Geible, Anne Boley, Gary Haymond, Douglas Hollar, James Nyenhuis, John Schutz and Tip Scott. The Sidney Wildcats will take on Kingsbury tonight in the Larwill gym. On Friday Sportscaster Milo Clase will air the Sidney-North Webster game from North Webster over WRSW AM-FM for their “Game of the Week” and return on Saturday with the Pierceton-Claypool clash at Claypool. 75 Years Ago Applications for membership in the Elks Lodge were approved for Thomas L. Sharp, Gerald F. Lambdin, Ross W. Osborn, Hurley Gerard Jr. and George Myers. The door prize was won by Ben Phillipson. The Roberta Hope Guild held its first meeting of the year at the home of Mrs. Grover Sims with Mrs. N. Bruce Howe as assisting hostess. Mrs. Lola Black reviewed the first chapter of the home mission study book, “The American City and its Church.” She and Mrs. Ethel Norris will host the next meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Milo Horn, for the past few years operators of the Mayfair Restaurant, East Center St., have taken over the Warsaw Cafeteria, West Center St. Former Cafeteria owners, Mr. and Mrs. James Case, are now operating the Mayfair.
