White, John Tucker and John Mollenhour, who were proprietors of the ground. It was a thriving village for perhaps 30 years at the crossroads three miles south of Palestine and four miles west. Dr. Amos M. Towl was a leading physician in the community for 30 years and had a drugstore with a post office on the northwest corner of the crossroads. He was agent for the Northern Indianian. Dr. Towl came to Palestine in 1852 and four years later moved to Sevastopol. Most of the uptown buildings were built during the Civil War and Grant’s administration.
