Robert Hudson and his brother-in-law, Mike Eiser, gained firsthand knowledge of the ups and downs of sailing a catamaran in high winds recently on Winona Lake. The sail-boat overturned after a rudder broke, but boat-owner Hudson and shipmate Eiser were able to right their craft and make it safely to shore. No word on the water temperature, but our guess is that it was a bit chilly.

Lots of people made bets on the outcome of the World Series, but Rene King of Warsaw got a surprise in addition to the bet. She woke up and found a large sheet hung in her yard, rubbing in the fact that the New York Mets won and reminding her she owed Tom Moreno an ice cream sundae.

Among the top winners in the recent Marshall County grain show were these five boys from Bourbon. They are Steve Martin, first in alfalfa; Bob Martin, first in wheat; Dick Martin, grand champion in potatoes; Larry Hanes, reserve champion in soybeans; and Robert Wiedeman, reserve champion in oats and first in wheat.

Fred McKown Jr. was host recently to 12 friends who enjoyed the Shirley Temple show “Dimples” at the Strand theater. The party was in honor of Keaton Landis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Landis, who are moving this week to Huntington. The youngsters enjoyed refreshments at the candy kitchen.
