    Whitko sixth-grader Steven Elder earned first place in the NFL/Gatorade Punt, Pass and Kick competition at the state level.

The 11-year-old Elder won the state competition at halftime of the Nov. 15 Indianapolis Colt-New York Jets game at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. He finished the three categories with a combined distance of 239 feet, 6 inches to win the 10- and 11-year-old division.

    Wilbur Lowman returned home after a week's hunting trip. As a trophy of his skill with the rifle Lowman brought home a 10-point deer head. The animal weighed 200 pounds. Venison will be served at the Lowman home for several weeks.
