    Wawasee's 1998 fall sports MVP award winners are: Julia Wolfe, girls golf; Rustin Mikel, football; Missy Miller, girls soccer; Andy Cole, boys tennis; Megan Hoffman, girls cross country low-point award; Sara Frantz, volleyball; Chad Wortinger, boys soccer; and Jeff Moerchchen, boys cross country low-point runner and MVP.

November 18 1983

    POTPOURRI - A healthy pat on the back for 8-year-old Eric Robinson, son of Sheila Poe, East Center Street, who discovered the fire at Pentecostal Lighthouse Church on Ranch Road, then directed firefighters to the scene of the blaze.

Eric was playing in the yard of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gilbert, Ranch Road, when he spotted the flames shooting from the cross outside the church and raced in the house to report it. Firemen were able to douse the flames before they caught the building on fire.

November 18 1958

    Jon Sroufe, of North Webster, successfully blocked an attempted layup by Mentone's Larry Nellans in action at North Webster. The Trojans downed the taller Mentone squad 57-37 to give them two wins in as many starts.


75 Years Ago

November 18 1933

    A number of smaller Kosciusko County lakes are completely covered with ice and fishermen, weeks and months earlier than usual, are fishing through the ice. Children have been skating on ponds and edges of the lakes. Little Eagle Lake, part of Winona Lake, was completely frozen over yesterday and continued so today.
