Although they said it couldn’t be done, artist Robert Hudson had other ideas. According to other Winona Lake sailors, who wish to remain nameless, Hudson’s old catamaran sail was a disgrace to the fleet – tattered and patched. As he shopped for a new sail, none of the offered designs struck his fancy. So he purchased a white one, with the idea of painting a mural on it. He was told there was no paint that would adhere to sail material – Dacron. He found that it would, and thinks he’s created the first painting on a sail since Vikings sailed the high seas. He says the new sail rolls up easily – just like the canvas of an oil painting.

Nearly four years after her death, Blanche Byrer’s life-long dream has come true and she’s probably smiling down from the heavens as a result. It took some time, but newly remodeled “Byrer Manor,” located on a portion of the 200-acre farm at CRs 650 North and 750 West, has become a home for wayward girls, as outlined in Byrer’s will. Now a picturesque country farmhouse decorated in feminine pinks, blues and greens, Byrer is ready for business.

Dean Rummel, one of Atwood High School’s most consistant cagers last year, wears a Warsaw High School uniform as the Tigers prepare to perform against Nappanee. Dean, a 6-2 junior, averaged nearly 10 points per game for the Greyhounds a year ago before consolidation split up the school. Warsaw Coach Boag Johnson is high on Rummnel’s rebounding ability and although he won’t start against Nappanee, he is likely to see action early in the contest.
