 Board members from Lakeland Community Services, Mentone Daycare Center, New Beginnings and North Webster Daycare attended Jump-Start, a conference offered by Freedom Academy held in Kendallville. Attendees were Deb Harrell, Johnnie Fick, Delores Hearn, Cindy Law,  Donna Krill, Mary Ann Stuller, Deb Gillum, Becky Alles, Sariah Morgan, Melissa Possell, Larry Kinsey, Robyn Lamie, Kim Jones and Linda Kinsey.
The Syracuse-Wawasee Trail Project has received a donation from area resident Dennis Beadle. Park Foundation executive director is Michael Hixenbaugh.

Eta Zeta Chapter of Psi Iota Xi, Nappanee, will present its annual “House of Holly” Nov. 19 in the home of George and Mickey Roelandts, 355 Heritage Parkway, Nappanee. Craft items will be sold by silent auction and cheeseballs will be available for purchase. Children participating are Kelsey and Erin Newcomer and Nick and Chris Roelandts.
Even though Elkhart Central’s Blue Blazers ran away with the team title at the Warsaw girls swimming sectional, several local swimmers earned a trip to the state finals. Warsaw was led by Ivy Reed, first in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 freestyle, and Rebecca Nichols, first in the 100 butterfly. The pair were on the 400 free relay team which took third place. The pair accounted for 85 of the team’s 103 points. Joining the Warsaw pair at the state meet will be Wawasee’s diving corp of Julie Gunn and Dawn Firestone, who were first and second.

Norm’s Sports Shop, located one mile west of Larwill on U.S. 30, will hold a “Grand Opening” Oct. 10 and 11. The store was destroyed by fire last April 18 and has been rebuilt. Norm Reiff opened Norm’s Gun Shop in 1961 with a small building containing 500 square feet. The new establishment now has 7,800 square feet under one roof and features a complete selection of sporting goods and supplies.
Ruth Kain, Times-Union Society Editor, has two lovely orange Oriental Poppy blooms brightening her desk. They were given to her by Shirl Elder, who has them blooming in her yard for the second time this year.

Warsaw Bowling Alley, under new management of Mr. and Mrs. William Ladd, Warsaw, reopened Sept. 9. The room has been thoroughly redecorated and made ready for bowling enthusiasts.
A $15,000 expansion project for the McDonald Hospital, U.S. Highway 30 at the city’s eastern limits, was announced by Dr. J.R. Baum, who opened the hospital three years ago. Plans call for the addition of nine extra rooms for patients and four  utility rooms. The X-ray room and laboratory will be placed in the new basement.
Buss Miner, Mary Bonner, Bill Collison, Dixie Dykes, Tommy Hay, Merrill Foster, Solon Boles and sister, Norma, gathered in a local drug store blowing bubbles with funny gum to the mirth of onlookers.
