The Thorn family farm in Kosciusko County, established in 1905, was recognized as a Hoosier Homestead by Lt. Governor Becky Skillman and Agriculture Director Andy Miller. The family was honored for their 100-year commitment to Indiana agriculture. Nearly 4,500 farms have been honored.

Virgil A. (Doc) McCleary accepted a certificate from Neal Carlson, Warsaw Kiwanis Club, for being named "Kiwanian of the Quarter." Doc has many years of perfect attendance and served two terms as president. An outstanding Kiwanian is recognized each quarter.
The Roann covered bridge on the Eel River was damaged by fire in late September, and the town is raising funds for its restoration. The 212-foot span wooden bridge was built in 1877, one of only four in northeast Indiana. Presently, the North Manchester covered bridge is the only intact covered bridge in Wabash County.

A comedy in three acts, "The Ghoul Friends," is being presented by the senior class of Akron High School Oct. 29 in the gym. The play is directed by Mrs. Lois Shull and student director Carol Bumgartner. Members include Kathy Kuhn as Lollie, Diane Cumberland as Mrs. Merrick, and Gail Hammond as Dan.
Bourbon fifth-grade pupils taught by Mrs. Nancy Peugh visited the Bourbon Library Friday, receiving instructions in the use of the card catalog, reference material, and the taking out of books. Librarian is Mary Fribley.

75 Years
Kosciusko County's selective service board got under way less than 13 hours after the close of registration polls last week, and by Saturday had 2,926 registrants' cards filed, numbered and had announced serial numbers for each registrant, and are now awaiting the drawing of the first numbers in Washington, probably Oct. 29. Important work of shuffling and stamping serial numbers on the cards was started by a citizens' committee. Draft board members: Attorney John Boyle, oil dealer Ben Eagler, secretary Bertha Boyle, Dr. Charles Wagner, Dr. Frank Dougherty (Ministerial Association), Mrs. Anna Williams (Federation of Clubs), Clarence Hartman (Junior Chamber of Commerce) and Postmaster Roy Bowen. Draft board offices are in room 2 of the Times and Union, which will publish results from Washington.
