    Joel Pelz didn't have to think long about what his community service project would be for his Eagle Badge in scouting - with winter approaching, collecting coats was the easy answer.

And collect coats he did, 252 of them. The patrons of the Salvation Army Thrift Store will be the beneficiaries of Pelz's hard work.

    Republican Mayor-elect Jeff Plank scored an overwhelming victory in the general election Tuesday, collecting 61.4 percent of the votes cast in the city.

Plank garnered 1,974 votes to easily outdistance his opponents - Democrat Ronald L. Dirck and Independent Robert P. Murphy.

    Sharon Nordman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Nordman, took first place in the state twirling contest held recently at Butler Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. She is a majorette for the Syracuse band and is only a freshman.

    According to Warsaw dealers, the Thanksgiving turkey will probably cost 27 to 30 cents a pound, dressed.

Dressed turkeys are now retailing at about 20 cents per pound but a price of between 27 and 30 cents per pound is expected by Thanksgiving Day.
