10 Years Ago The Ramada Plaza Ladies Bridge Club met recently with five tables playing. The winners were Leora Fuller, Grace Mayer, B. Mayer, Eileen Burgher and Marjorie Nice. The hostess was Lucy Whiteneck. The Women’s Bridge Club of the Stonehenge Golf and Country Club met recently with the following winners Wanda McSherry, Liz Frazzetta, Margret Stutzman, Maxine Harris and Erma Swank. 25 Years Ago Sunday night’s blaze that gutted the Evans Family Store, located along Main Street, Milford, destroyed more than what stood there. The site served as a landmark and had an extensive history. The building, known as the Miles Building, was constructed in the late 1800s, according to local residents. LeRoy Miles operated a hardware store at the building. Later, for a short period, Miles operated a nightclub, known as “Club LeRoy,” during the 1930s. It was a grocery and dry goods store initially. 50 Years Ago Gerald Smalley, 29, of Beaver Dam, was named Kosciusko County’s “Outstanding Young Farmer of 1962” at the fifth annual awards banquet recently at Horn’s Restaurant. The Warsaw Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsors this event each year. Two runners-up were Allen Sharkey, of Etna Green, and Everett Tom Jr., of Leesburg, second- and third-place winners respectively. 75 Years Ago The Emergency Hospital has been admitted to the hospital register of the American Medical Association under its new name, the Murphy Hospital. This recognizes the hospital in class A. The word was received here by Dr. S.C. Murphy.
