10 Years AgoDr. Lee Harman, superintendent of Warsaw Community Schools, recently was named "Indiana Superintendent of the Year" by the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents. Roger Thornton, executive director of IAPSS, said Harman was chosen for the state honor by a statewide committee of school superintendents. Harman was chosen, Thornton said, because "he has demonstrated an almost career-long commitment to Warsaw Community Schools."25 Years AgoThis recipe was submitted in the 1985 Spotlight Recipe Contest for Cream Of Potato Soup.6-8 potatoes (peel, boil and mash); 1/2 cup green onions (chopped); 1 stalk celery (sliced very thin); 1-2 carrots (diced); 1 lb. bacon (fried and drained); 6 tbsp. bacon drippings; 1 tbsp. pepper; 1 tbsp. garlic salt; 2 tbsp. parsley. Fry bacon. Save 6 tbsp. of drippings and saute' onion, carrots, celery. Make a white sauce by adding flour, then add 2 cups of milk and use a whisk to keep smooth. Crumble bacon into this and add white sauce with vegetables to the mashed potatoes. Add milk until smooth and creamy. Also, add pepper, garlic salt and parsley. Heat thoroughly. Receipts totaled $95. Music was furnished by Doris Shock and a girls' sextette.
