10 Years AgoClass Act Dance Troupe Inc. recently competed in the Chicago National Assoc. of Dance Masters 2000 competition. Members received five first-place awards, one second-place award and one third-place award. Members are: Jodie Lieffring, April Kuhn, Susan Bonitati, Jodi Leek and Andrea Kindig, Krysta Kindig, Shelly Kohls, Ashley Lindenmier, Charles Robison, Marie Weller, Lindsey Pickens, Kristina Crane, Allison Davis, Karli Slater, Courtney Clary, Kelsay Skaggs, Krista Katris, Kristy Lowell, Melissa Sabones and Hillary Umbaugh.25 Years AgoSouth Whitley native Janie Fricke and the Heart City Band performed at two sold-out shows recently at the Wagon Wheel Playhouse. Fricke's appearances in Warsaw are always a special time. Although born and raised in nearby South Whitley, Kosciusko County audiences have adopted her as a "native daughter." Her local concerts are more like a family reunion, even if you've never met her. Onstage, she's like the girl next door and that doesn't change once the curtain goes down. 50 Years AgoAn estimated 2,000 persons are expected to jam-pack the new Winona Lake auditorium tomorrow night to pay public tribute to veteran Congressman Charles A. Halleck in his bid for a 14th consecutive term to the House of Representatives. Headline speaker for the occasion will be Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield, for the past eight years, a member of President Dwight Eisenhower's cabinet. Highlighting the entertainment will be songs by Winona Lake's talented Ruth Rodeheaver Thomas, whose brilliant soprano voice is internationally known in music circles.75 Years AgoSarah VanDyke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I.C. VanDyke of Winona Lake, was one of 17 women students admitted recently to Naiad, a club for advanced women swimmers, at DePauw University.
