Geo. A. Nye recalls the Warsaw Methodist Church in 1894: “I was a small boy growing up on the streets of Warsaw 44 years ago. On Sunday I attended Sunday School in the two-story, brown brick church which served the congregation for almost half a century. The Rev. Somerville Light was the pastor. The church was about 26 years old, having been built after the Civil War ended. It was dedicated in 1868. No Christmas entertainment was complete without a duet by Louis and Harry Wann. Our Sunday School teacher was Mrs. Emma Ireland. George Loveday would accompany the organ with a large bass viol. Phil Bentley would pump the organ by hand for Mrs. Maude Irvine and the other organists. Joseph A. Funk served as superintendent for 50 years. Elmer Funk led the singing. Until the new Courthouse was built Gen. Reub Williams advocated in his newspaper that clocks be put in the tower of the church.”
