10 Years AgoMedtronic Sofamor Danek Mfg., formerly at 100 Publishers Drive, Winona Lake, is now moved into its new facilities on the northeast corner of the intersection of U.S. 30W and CR 150W, near Warsaw. Danek's new building includes an estimated $20-million orthopedic hardware manufacturing and production facility. It consists of 150,000 square feet on 25 acres of land, and is designated as an economic development area.25 Years AgoThe seven brothers and sisters of the Flory family gathered for a family reunion in their old log cabin along the Tippecanoe River. The original log home was bought by their parents Dora and Conrad Flory in 1903. Originally the home was located near Etna Green, but in 1975 Clarence Flory and his son, from Etna Green and some other helpers took the log cabin apart, log by log and moved it to sit along the banks of the Tippecanoe River. The average age of the seven brothers and sisters was nearly 80 years.50 Years Ago Miss Beth McDowell and Miss Sharon Johnson, of Warsaw attended Homecoming festivities at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, over the weekend. They were guests of Beth's sister, Miss Jean McDowell, a freshman, and Sharon's cousin, Miss Sue Henderson, who is taking graduate work in music.75 Years Ago With one candidate campaigning against himself, asking his friends and neighbors not to vote for him, the town election at Leesburg presents some unusual aspects. Republicans named a ticket. The Democratic precinct committee appointed a Democratic town chairman and secretary and called a convention, nominating Democrats to all of the town offices but one. This ticket they called the Citizens' ticket. Joe Blodgett, Sr., was the only Republican put on the Citizens' ticket. Joe is pretty mad as his name was placed on the ballot against his vigorous protest. He resigned but filed his resignation two days too late to get his name removed from the ballots.
