    Four members of the Wawasee FFA Chapter recently captured the 1997 State Soil Judging Contest team title. The contest was held in Spencer County near Tell City. More than 60 teams and nearly 300 individuals qualified through a series of county and area competitions. The winning Wawasee team included Kyle Wurtzel, first place individual overall; Rob Schlipf, seventh individual; Brian Warren, 15th individual; and Matt Grady, 28th individual. All four are seniors at Wawasee High School.

January 10 1983

    Nancy and Rob Gast, the owners of Freewheelin', 110 S. Washington St., Warsaw, were presented a commendation by Warsaw Community Development Corp. board member Pat Lucas. The award was presented in recognition of the beautification of their storefront.


50 Years Ago

January 10 1958

    Leesburg residents claimed they had one of the largest single rocks in the area.

Workmen uncovered the boulder last week while clearing away acreage on the Larry Polk land southeast of Leesburg. Keith Jordan, who was operating a bulldozer that dug up the rock, said it was larger than a pickup truck. Polk said he would gladly listen to any suggestions concerning what he should do with the giant rock.

January 10 1933

    Action against Warsaw High School pupils who make a practice of cutting across the court house lawn may be taken if the pupils continue to disregard the "keep off" the grass signs. Not only do the boys cut across the lawn, but they have been seen thumbing their fingers on their noses at county officials.
