    Ann (Manivah) Sena, Leesburg, was honored at the Indiana Literacy Foundation's Awards Luncheon recently in Indianapolis. The award, given for "outstanding learner achievement," was presented by Gordon Wishard, chairman of ILF board of directors.

Ann and her husband, came to the United states from Laos in 1980 when their two sons, Edward and David, were 2 and 4 years old. Edward graduated from Indiana University last fall and David is a student there, planning to graduate next year. From the very beginning, Ann and John were determined to give their sons a college education, so both parents worked to accomplish their goal. Then Ann decided it was her turn.

    The first payroll checks to be printed by the new county computers occurred Monday in the courthouse. The task took only 30 minutes to print the checks for all county employees. Using the old method of typing each check on an electric typewriter took 1-1/2 days before. Eventually all claims will be computerized.

    Judy Whiteneck, daughter of the Robert Whitenecks, Chapman Lake, has enrolled at Indiana University, Bloomington. She will have one year at the Bloomington campus and three at the Indiana Medical Center in Indianapolis in preparation for a career as a nurse.

October 9 1934

    Mr. and Mrs. Del Meredith spent an afternoon in Logansport with their son, Frank Meredith, who is teaching industrial arts at Logansport High School this week. Mr. Meredith was chosen from the class of Industrial education students of Purdue University to fill the vacancy of Prof. Hall, the instructor of that department.
