Kohl's Department Stores will celebrate the grand opening of its new Warsaw store, 590W CR 300N, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Oct. 6. With the opening of a store in South Bend the same day, the total number of stores in the state is 29. By the end of 2005, the company will have 732 stores in 41 states.
Warsaw Symphony Orchestra is presenting its premier concert Sunday, Oct. 9., at the Rodeheaver Auditorium at Winona Lake. Dr. Patrick Kavanaugh conducts the WSO. When he put out the call for musicians last spring, he worried whether he'd have enough people for an orchestra. Members came from Warsaw, Winona Lake, Fort Wayne, Huntington and Goshen. The age range is 13 to 60.Warsaw Homecoming 1990 proved to be extra special for Doug Light and Beth Stackhouse, who were named King and Queen. The Tigers were victorious over the Goshen Redskins, 28-20, Friday night, Sept. 21, in a big Northern Lakes Conference battle.
Daniel Hogan and Erin Cook helped Ronald McDonald with magic tricks at Sacred Heart School Monday, Sept. 24. Ronald was at the school to urge students to value reading.
Tom Allen, Warsaw, recently accepted the position of chairman of the Warsaw chapter of Ducks Unlimited. Carol Hartman is zone chairman and was named as state ladies chairman.
Tony Doyle, son of Jim and Kathy Doyle, Warsaw, was voted Employee of the Month at Kosciusko Community YMCA because of his willingness to help others.

Jane Tuttle, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Tuttle, Pierceton, was selected Kosciusko County's representative in the State Sesquicentennial Queen contest in final judging Saturday, Sept. 11. Runners-up were Sharon Mauzy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thames Mauzy, and Roberta (Bobby) Knisely, daughter of Jack Knisely, both of Warsaw. State judging will be in February from representatives of each county.
Rev. John E. Chambers, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Warsaw, is observing his 25th year in the ministry this Sunday, Sept. 12. Dr. B.H. Cain was conference superintendent when Rev. Chambers was ordained Sept. 8, 1940.

Mrs. McKee, wife of Winona Hotel manager Arthur McKee, is in deep mourning over the death of her pet bird, Flickie, who was buried with appropriate ceremonies under a pine tree near the hotel, and a neat wooden slab marks the spot.
Roy Moore, Warsaw, caught a five-pound black bass on Center Lake near the old basket factory along the east shore line. An experienced angler, he had very little difficulty in landing Mr. Bass.
Because of the prevalence of infantile paralysis in northern Indiana, some consideration is being given to a cancellation of the 1940 Kosciusko County Fair, set for the last week in September. A meeting will be held tonight at Menzie garage.
