Maple Leaf Farms recently awarded more than 20 scholarships to students from Indiana, Wisconsin and California. Locally, Maple Leaf Farms awarded 13 scholarships to the following students: Arash Akbar, Warsaw; Summer Boyd, Winona Lake; Desiree Hall, Warsaw; David Myers, Warsaw; Rachel Rodgers, Leesburg; Travis Shively, Warsaw; Trenton Shively, Warsaw; Jane Wamsley, Syracuse; and Jennifer Weissert, Bourbon.

Janessa Gerber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Gerber, Warsaw, and a sixth-grade pupil at Washington Elementary School, has been named District Teen Volunteer of The Year by the Indiana Health Care Association for her volunteer work at Miller’s Merry Manor. She was honored recently at a recognition banquet in Indianapolis. The principal at Washington School is Frank Anglin.

An area girl has made the Grace College cheerleading quintet for only the second time since the college began having cheerleaders in 1954. That year, Mary Bauman of Winona Lake made the group. This year, another Winona Lake girl, Carol Toirac, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Florent Toirac, has made the squad in her freshman year.

Etna Green’s High School band was seen marching down Indiana Street past The Times building heading the pet parade during fair week. This band won enthusiastic and justly deserved praise here fair week both for their marching and concert work. The pretty strutting drum major was the cynosure of all eyes.
