    The best chili in the state is made in Winona Lake.

It's hearty, filling, not too spicy, thick and rich. In May, Zimmer employee Rob Reed's Hot LZ Chili won the Indiana State Championship Chili Cook-off in Vincennes, an International Chili Society-sanctioned event. ICS state chili cookoff winners are eligible to compete in a World Champion Chili Cookoff in Las Vegas. The winner gets $25,000.

    Warsaw Freshman High School teacher Joe Conlon came away the top winner at the Warsaw Community Public Library's Trivial Pursuit Tournament during Fall Fest.

Conlon won first place in singles and joined Betty Kaye-Smith to win top prize in doubles. Second place in singles was John Ettinger. Tying for second place in doubles were the teams of Jay Rigdon and Brenda Rhodes and Bob and Fran Atkinson.

    Dennis Stouder, son of Dr. and Mrs. D.T. Stouder, Warsaw, has resumed pre-medical training at Manchester College. The Stouders' daughter, Darcy, is in Seattle. She expects to receive her master's degree in sociology from the University of Washington next January.

October 8 1934

    The Nalobe Campfire group of Leesburg held their first meeting of the year at the home of Barbara Robison. The meeting was opened by singing "Come Round Any Old Time," followed by the campfire law. The song, "There's an Indian Trail A-Winding," was sung, after which the roll was called.
