The Harlem Ambassadors, a show-basketball team like The Globetrotters, were in action Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Grace College Lancer Auditorium against the Indiana Legends of the Hardwood team as a way to raise money for the hurricane relief fund. Indiana's team: Coach Doug Ogle, Brian Elliott, Jon Yeh, Jolie (Eckhardt) Miller, David Wayne, James Joiner, Angie (Johnson) Anthony, Ron Brandenberg, Joe Graham, Dan Pacheco, Rob Irwin, Dale Miller, Tim Bailey, Jeff Grose, Scott Blum and Steve Hollar, who wore a pair of his vintage basketball shoes from the movie, “Hoosiers.” Indiana lost, 77-45.

Christie Eherenman, daughter of Phil and Mary Eherenman, Warsaw, competed in the Ironman Endurance Triathlon in Sunapee, N.H. Sept. 8, completing the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run in 14 hours and 29 minutes, which was third in her age group. There were 415 entrants and 382 finished.
New officers for the Kosciusko County Fireman's Association: Kenny Shepherd, Warsaw, president; Morrey Hester, Winona Lake, vice president; Mike Blair, Atwood, treasurer; Kerry Stogsdill, Warsaw, secretary. Outgoing officers: Butch Warren, president; Tom Feldman, vice president; Ellis Shepherd, treasurer; Jim Moyer, secretary.

The annual Turtle Derby, sponsored by the North Manchester Jaycees, will be held Sunday afternoon, Sept. 12, at the Thomas Marshall Playground. Vince Springer, general chairman, and Todd Richards flew to Manila, Ark., the turtle-raising capital of the country, and returned with 125 large turtles for the derby and 200 small turtles to be sold to children as souvenirs. After the tournament, the turtles will be sold to the Huntington Jaycees for their derby.
Harold Zimmer, a master chef from Yellow Creek Lake, demonstrated the technique of flaming a duck for Maple Leaf Duck Farms at the Indiana State Fair last week.

 New courses have been added at the senior high school: Forrest Croop Jr. will be the machine shop instructor, and Lee Norman (Pete) Thorn will teach guidance and safety. Miss Frances Sharp has retired. Martha Bartol will fill a vacancy in the English and social studies departments at the junior high school. Condict Smith will assume the principalship of the East Ward school; Miss Fayma Miller transferred from West Ward to East Ward. Vera Ginn is principal and instructor of fifth grade at West Ward; Gene Calvert, fourth; Edna Lower, third; Bernice Hale, second; Tural Haldeman, first. County health authorities have ordered schools not to open until Monday, Sept. 16 as an “ultra-precautionary” measure against the spread of infantile paralysis.
