Students at Harrison Elementary met the challenge issued by the PTO to sell 25,000 candy bars in their fall fundraiser. As a reward, principal Randy Polston, fifth-grade teacher David Huemmer and custodian Steve Flenor agreed to let the top two sellers, second-grader Karli Slater, and sixth-grader Jewel Arrowood, shave their beards off.
Dan Manwaring won gross honors with a 76 and Forrest Miner and Joe Boggs tied for first place in net scoring with 70s in the Greenskeeper's Revenge tourney at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.
Five Boy Scouts, all members of Troop 75 sponsored by the Warsaw American Legion Post, held the distinction of being Eagle Scouts after receiving the top awards. They are Steven Schermmerhorn, Leesburg, and Jimmy Phillips, Jerry Eaton, Barry Barsh and Dick Latta, all of Warsaw. They received the award, highest of Boy Scout honors, during a court of honor conducted by Scoutmaster Robert Pfeiffer Jr. The troop now has 10 Eagle Scouts.
A special train, which is bearing President Herbert Hoover from Des Moines, Iowa, where he opened his speaking campaign for re-election last night, to Washington, passed through Warsaw at 10:07 a.m. today, over the Pennsylvania railway. The train slowed down in passing through and the president waved to those that had gathered at the station.
