Mike Kubacki, president of Lake City Bank, presented a vacation package to Nelson Conley of Warsaw. Conley won the prize by successfully kicking a field goal during the Halftime Field Goal Contest at the Lake City Bank/Northern Lakes Conference Dome Day recently. Nelson’s father, Bob Conley, was also present.

Warsaw Mayor Jeff Plank this morning said 75 Grace College students have been placed on an “alert basis” and are prepared to assist city officials if heavy rains create serious flood conditions. At the Warsaw Board of Public Works and safety meeting, Plank said the volunteers would be mobilized to help the city with several water-soaked areas that could become flooded. Since midnight, 3.6 inches of rain fell on Warsaw.

H.A. Thomas, Winona Lake, has a sunflower measuring 19 inches in diameter. Thomas raised the large sunflower in his garden. He states the stalk was about 12 feet high. In his years of gardening, this is the largest. His previous flower measured some 10 inches across.

Stephenson’s annual autumn style show, with 50 lovely local young ladies promenading the swank of later fall creations direct from New York and Paris, and gallantly supported by members of the local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter attired in dresses of years ago, proved, as usual, one of the headline features of Kosciusko County’s fair last night. As the largest crowd in the history of the showing jammed every inch of standing space on Center Street between Buffalo and Indiana thorough-fares to watch its progress, the crowd was conservatively estimated at nearly 10,000 persons.
