    The Lakeland Christian Academy Lady Cougars Junior High volleyball team won first place in the First Baptist Church (Mishawaka) tournament Oct. 18. LCA beat Community Baptist in the championship match. Members of the team are: Amber Pitts, Kari Grossnickle, Courtney Lavender, Kris Paulus, Rebekah Arnett, Sarah Paseka, Abby Tenaglia, Krista Petty, Meghan Shaffer, Laura McCall, Kelly Paulus, Karmen Bushen, Malinda Wobrock and Erin Silveus. Their coach is Linda Divine and assistant coach is Patty Skiles.

    A new crime information computer was installed at the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Dept.

Darlene Speigle, who worked as a Warsaw radio dispatcher before she joined the sheriff's department a few years ago, has been appointed the overseer of the computer.

50 Years Ago

October 31 1957

    Mrs. Cleo Ford and daughter, Mrs. Roger Ring, Claypool, were guests at a luncheon in the Claypool Hotel, sponsored by the Lions Club. The important feature was the unveiling of a James Whitcomb Riley portrait, painted by Mrs. Ford's niece, Frances Norris Streit of New York City. The portrait will hang in the Claypool's Riley room. Streit also painted the statehouse portrait of George Craig, former governor.


75 Years Ago

October 31 1932

    An imitation "electric chair" has been installed in the Warsaw Fire Dept. A battery has been put under one of the chairs and when a policeman or fireman desires to have a "confidential conversation," he sits in a chair besides the "electric chair" and the fun commences. As soon as the visitor is seated the battery is turned on.
