    MOREHEAD, Ky. - Two local students are participating in Morehead State University's 170-member marching band for the 1997-98 school year.

Heather Ferguson, the daughter of Michael and Regina Ferguson, Warsaw, plays flute and is a freshman music education major. Jeremy Miller, the son of Don and Vicki Miller, Claypool, plays percussion and is a junior music education major.

    The Atwood PTO sponsored a candle sales campaign, and eight pupils were the top salesmen in their classes: Cori Pratt, kindergarten; Scott Stone, first grade; Christine Irwin, second grade; Susan Owens, third grade; Keith Egolf and Brian Frederick, fourth grade; Scott Boggs, fifth grade; and Rachel Keele, sixth grade. The proceeds from the candle sale will be used to purchase playground equipment.

    Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas, Winona Lake, left for Toronto, Canada, where she will start a series of concerts with Johnny Ambrose, famous Canadian tenor.

    The Warsaw United Brethren Church celebrated its 50th anniversary Sunday by special services.

The church was organized in Hendee Hall on South Buffalo Street, Aug. 19, 1882, by the Rev. J.A. Cummins, with the following charter members: Daniel Deeds, Elizabeth Deeds, John P. Ebersole, Kemina Ebersole, Anna Reisch, Joseph Weimer, Mary Weimer, Charlotte Lee, William Brandt, David Brandt and Joshua Scott.
