10 Years Ago Hundreds of people were in attendance Oct. 17, as Fribley Field was dedicated. The field at Richardson-DuBois Park, East Market Street, Warsaw, is now home to the Young Tiger football program and is named for Marine Lance Cpl. David Fribley. After four Marines presented the colors, the Rev. Roy Blake gave the invocation. Dave Hurd provided a fly-over. David’s family, Garry, Linda, brother Steven and Maj. Tom McKee, unveiled the monument in honor of Fribley. Members of the cheerleading and football teams presented flowers to the family. Air Force Airman Josef A. Miller, South Whitley, and Air National Guard Airman Dustin E. Groves, Syracuse, have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. 25 Years Ago Warsaw Christian School Character Quality Awards were awarded to kindergarten: Michael Clinger, obedience; Rachel Brown, generosity; first grade: Holly McGriff, dilligence; Amber Barrett, compassion; second: Matthew Clinger, compassion; David Fawley, diligence; third: Nancy Mason, sensitivity; Nathaniel Pletcher, sincerity; fourth: Kathy James, humbleness; Jenny Leverett, serving spirit; fifth: Aaron Jones, thoroughness; Lori Goshert, creativity; sixth: Shawn Schlag, compassion; Beth Mikel, compassion. Wawasee Homecoming king and queen were Mike Bailey, son of Steve and Connie Bailey, Leesburg, and Jenelle Jennings, daughter of Robert and Karen Jennings, Syracuse. Wawasee FFA chapter won the Tri-County Soil Judging Contest: Russ Anderson, Shawn Krull, Dave Rosenberry and Derik Green, who was the highest scoring individual in the contest. 50 Years Ago Kiwanis Kids’ Day Parade saw Faith Richey with her dog Tena; Stewart, Stanley and Hope Banghart with their goat Jezebel; Carol Robinson with her kitten Tiger; and Jim Doyle, who carried his dog, Ginger, in the basket of his bicycle. Mrs. Wallace Stouder, Springhill Acres, gave her son, Stanley, a “space-age” party for his sixth birthday. The cake was decorated with moon dust, space men and a rocket. Guest astronauts were Scott and John Davis, Kim Horn, Steve Harris and John Poor. 75 Years Ago Glenn Yoder, former Daily Times linotype operator for seven years, now employed on the Auburn Star, dropped into the office to see old friends. Yoder is remembered as a member of the Warsaw tennis club and Moose Legion softball team. Joe Hellerman’s Fashion Shoe Store staff worked the clock around last weekend, handling, tagging, sorting and displaying more than 6,000 pairs of new fall shoes. Six persons were rescued from Wawasee Lake when a 24-foot Hacker Craft owned by the Wawasee Marine Supply Company caught fire about one-half mile southwest of the Spink-Wawasee Hotel. The speedboat, named “The Crown,” was destroyed by the fire.
