10 Years Ago Being the 50th anniversary of their magical year, Coach Frank Sanders Jr. and his 1952 Warsaw High School football team will be honored at Warsaw’s final regular season game with Concord. According to current WCHS athletic director Dave Fulkerson, 18 players and/or coaches from the team will be in attendance at Friday’s game. One of them in attendance will be state Senator Kent Adams, Warsaw’s quarterback that year and he who is responsible for setting up the ceremony. 25 Years Ago Jenny Bender was crowned 1988 Triton Junior Miss at the Triton High School Auditorium. Miss Bender, daughter of Dennis and Judy Bender of Bourbon, also received the Scholastic Achievement award. For the creative and performing arts portion of the program, Bender portrayed a young girl resisting the routine of piano practice in a monologue titled “It’s Practice Time.” 50 Years Ago The new Sears Christmas catalog, which is becoming a U.S. institution, will soon be arriving locally, according to Bill Pearl, Warsaw Sears manager. Eight million will be distributed across the nation and will contain such space-age items as water-powered rockets with parachuting astronaut, atomic submarines in addition to the usual doll houses, portable battery-powered Junior Miss sewing machines, and other delights of the Yule season. That time already? 75 Years Ago Weather permitting, the bridge across Deeds Creek on the county road running north from the McDonald Hospital will be open this week. The bridge is about two miles north of the hospital near the Francis Light farm. The bridge was completely wrecked on the night of Oct. 2, when Frederick Vanator, Fort Wayne, lost control of his car and crashed into the structure.
