The Wal-Mart Supercenter held the grand opening of its new store. The festivities opened with the Warsaw Pep Band presenting musical selections. The John C. Peterson American Legion Post provided a color guard throughout the event. Gary Elders, manager at both the old and new stores, served as the master of ceremonies. Dennis Wilson, pastor of Warsaw Community Church, opened the celebration with prayer, followed by the group singing “The Star Bangled Banner.” Wal-Mart is open 24 hours a day now.

This recipe was submitted in the Spotlight Recipe Contest for Scalloped Potatoes. – Ingredients: 1 (2 lb. pkg.) Ore-Ida Hash Browns; 1 stick oleo, melted; 1 pint sour cream; 1 can cream of mushroom soup; 1 can cream of chicken soup; 1/2 tsp. salt; 1/4 tsp. pepper; 1-2 tsp. dried minced onions; 2 cups sharp shredded cheddar cheese; 3-4 cups crushed corn flakes (coated with melted butter). – In 9x13 ungreased pan, stir hash browns, melted oleo, sour cream, soups, salt and pepper and minced onion. stir well. Top with 2 cups shredded cheese and then crushed 3-4 cups buttered corn flakes. Bake at 350 degrees 1 hour uncovered. *Can divide recipe in half and put in 8x8 pan for 4-6 people. Kim Noggle, Warsaw

A very happy Coach Bill Goshert was lifted atop the shoulders of cheering Warsaw High School football players, following their convincing 32-7 victory over Columbia City in the final game of the season at Columbia City. The Tigers finished with a seven-won, two-lost record – their best season in seven years. Some members of the football team were: Nolan Huffer, Pat McClure, Paul Howard, Tim Weidman, Darwin Call, Tom Sanders, Jim Gast and Dennie Baker.

Mayor C.C. DuBois of Warsaw was an assistant of Grand Marshal Elmer B. Funk in the mounted group which headed the parade here of Republicans, in the greatest rally ever staged in this county. The mayor handled his mount with dexterity from youthful experience on a farm in central Indiana and in France during the war.
