Cleanup efforts are under way this morning throughout Kosciusko County in the wake of yesterday’s tornadoes. Two factories were among the damaged structures in Kosciusko County, with Da-Lite Screen Co. Inc. on Ind. 15 the hardest hit, and R.R. Donnelley & Sons sustaining “fairly significant damage to the east plant,” according to Grant McGuire, vice president and division director of the Warsaw facility.

For WRSW station manager Harvey Miller and The Times-Union general manager Norm Hagg, a Pontiac Auto Show in Chicago provided some excitement this week. Accompanied by Bruce Petro, owner of Bruce Petro Olds-Buick-Pontiac-Cadillac-GMC, the pair drove home in brand new 1987 Pontiac Bonnevilles - for a few days. Their names were drawn in a two-week giveaway during the show at the Mike Ditka restaurant in downtown Chicago.

50 Years Ago

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Shields, Leesburg, have been invited to attend the commissioning exercises for the world’s largest ship – the United States Aircraft Carrier Constellation at the New York Naval shipyard, Oct. 27.

Their son, Jack B. Shields, 29, an 11-year Navy veteran, is assigned to the ship. The ship was almost destroyed by fire in December 1960.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mellencamp, after returning from their trip to Detroit, went to Greencastle to visit over the weekend with their daughters, Virginia and Wilda, who are students at DePauw University.

The Rev. and Mrs. Frederick C. Cromer of Winona Lake, left for a trip through Ohio. They will visit in upper Sandusky, their former home, and at Mt. Vernon with their son, Fred.
