    Marine Lance Cpl. Shawn P. Gatke, son of Jean A. Watkins of North Webster, and Gregg A. Gatke, Winona Lake, recently received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

Gatke was recognized for his outstanding achievement while serving as fuel section maintenance with Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, Santa Ana, Calif.

    Three area students have been named to "Who's Who Among American High School Students," a national honor society based on academic achievements in high school.

Students achieving this honor are Rhonda Montel, daughter of Larry and LaVerne Montel, Warsaw, a senior at Whitko High School, South Whitley; Kenny Harrell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Harrell, Warsaw, a senior at Warsaw Community High School; and Robert O. Smith II, son of Robert O. Smith, Warsaw, also a senior at WCHS.

October 24 1958

    Pfc. Billy G. Keaffaber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen C. Keaffaber, North Manchester, is serving with a signal battalion of the 8th infantry division in Germany. He went overseas last March. Keaffaber was a teacher and coach in civilian life.


75 Years Ago

October 24 1933

    A cash prize for beautiful fence-gardens given by the Pittsburg Steel Co., was awarded to Clara Morgan for her beautiful garden in the rear of the L.W. Royse home in Warsaw. Judges were Mrs. O.W. Dynes, Illinois, Prof. Bottomly, St. Louis, and Alfred Holler, editor Better Homes and Gardens magazine.
